Privacy Policy
In effect from 14 July 2026. · This policy applies to updhan26.shrisanmarg.com and to registrations made through it.
This registration form asks for a great deal about you — your photograph, a government ID, your health, where you worship. This page says exactly what is collected, exactly why, exactly where it goes, and exactly how long it is kept. It is written to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
The short version
- Your data is used to run this one Upadhan Tap and nothing else.
- It is never sold, never rented, and never used for marketing. There are no advertisements, no third-party analytics, and no tracking pixels on this website.
- Your card, UPI and bank details are never seen by the trust, because the payment happens entirely on Razorpay.
- Your ID proof is encrypted, kept off the public internet, and can be opened only by a logged-in administrator — and every single time one is opened, that is recorded.
What we collect, and why each thing is needed
| Name, father’s/husband’s name, surname, date of birth, gender | To identify you, to issue the Sammati Patra in the right name, and because men and women are seated and accommodated separately during the Upadhan. |
|---|---|
| Home address, city, state, native place | To post the Sammati Patra, and to group aradhaks by the city they travel from. |
| Your mobile number and one family member’s mobile number | Your number is how the trust reaches you about your form. The family member’s number is the number that gets called during a 45-day austerity if you are unwell and cannot answer your own phone. That is the only reason it is asked for. |
| Email address — OPTIONAL | Given to Razorpay so that they can send you the payment receipt, and for nothing else. There is no mailing list. If you leave it blank, the form still works. |
| A passport-size photograph of your face | So that the volunteers at the gate can confirm that the person entering is the person on the accepted form. Ten thousand aradhaks have registered with this trust before; the photograph is how a Sammati Patra stays attached to a human being. |
| A government ID proof (PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence, Passport, or Aadhaar) | To confirm that you are who the form says you are, once, at the time your form is reviewed. |
| Any physical problem — free text, OPTIONAL. This is health data. | Upadhan Tap is a 45-day austerity and the trust has to make arrangements for the body that is going to attempt it. If you write nothing, nothing is asked of you again. |
| The Sangh you worship at, and family members who have taken diksha | Asked by the trust’s printed form, and used to place you within your own sangh and family during the Upadhan. It reveals your religious affiliation, so it is treated with the same care as everything else on this page. |
| Secular and religious education | Used to gauge which of the religious sutras you have already studied, so that teaching can be pitched correctly. |
| Whether you need a paat (a wooden sleeping plank) | Because a paat is a physical object that has to be counted and carried into the shamiyana before you arrive. |
| Technical data | When you submit the form we record the IP address and browser the submission came from, to defend the form against automated abuse. We use a cookie to hold your unsubmitted draft. We do not use any third-party analytics service. |
The photograph and the ID proof — how they are actually held
These are the two files that would hurt you most if they leaked, so they are the two files we treat most carefully. This is what the code does, not what we intend to do:
They are ENCRYPTED AT REST. A stolen copy of the database or of the disk yields ciphertext, not your PAN card.
They are stored OUTSIDE THE WEB ROOT. There is no public URL that serves them. They cannot be reached by guessing an address, and a search engine cannot index them.
They can be opened ONLY by a logged-in administrator of the trust, through an authenticated route.
EVERY VIEW IS LOGGED — which administrator opened which aradhak’s ID proof, and when. If a document is ever misused, there is a record of who touched it.
They are never sent to any other person, service or company, and they are never used for anything except reviewing your form.
A word about Aadhaar
A private religious trust is not an authorised Aadhaar requesting entity, so PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence and Passport are all preferred over Aadhaar — any of them will do, and you do not need Aadhaar to register.
If you do choose Aadhaar, it is treated with exactly the same care as every other ID proof described above: encrypted at rest, kept outside the web root, opened only by a logged-in administrator of the trust, and every view logged. It is used once, to confirm your identity when your form is reviewed, and for nothing else.
The health field
The “any physical problem” field is OPTIONAL. It is ENCRYPTED AT REST, exactly as the ID proof is. It is used for one thing only: to make arrangements for you at the event — seating, a paat, food, and knowing whom to worry about.
It is never shown in a list, never exported for any other purpose, and never shared with anyone outside the trust’s organising volunteers.
The form saves itself as you type — including if you never submit
This form is long, and it is filled in on a phone, standing up, on a bad connection. So it autosaves as you type. If your battery dies at field 22, your answers are still there when you come back.
This means that if you start the form and never finish it, WE STILL HAVE WHAT YOU TYPED. You should know that, because most websites will not tell you.
What is saved: the answers you have typed, and any photograph or ID proof you have already uploaded. It is held against a random identifier in a cookie on your own phone — not against your name, and not against any account, because there is no account.
An abandoned draft, and any file uploaded to it, is deleted after :days days. Nothing you never submitted is kept beyond that.
You can have an unfinished draft deleted sooner. WhatsApp :phone and ask.
Payment data — we never see it
The ₹500 deposit is taken by Razorpay Software Private Limited, a payment gateway licensed by the Reserve Bank of India. When you pay, you are on Razorpay’s systems, not ours.
THE TRUST NEVER SEES AND NEVER STORES YOUR CARD NUMBER, YOUR CVV, YOUR UPI PIN, YOUR NET-BANKING PASSWORD OR YOUR BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER. Not in the database, not in a log file, not on a volunteer’s screen. They never enter this system at all.
What we do store is what a refund needs: the Razorpay order, payment and refund identifiers, the amount, the status, and the time. That is enough to return your money and to prove that we did.
Your name, mobile number and — if you gave one — your email are shared with Razorpay, because a payment gateway is required by law to know who is paying. Razorpay handles that data under its own privacy policy.
Who your data goes to
Razorpay, for the payment, as described above. That is the only company your data is shared with.
The organising volunteers of Shri Sanmarg Parivar, who need it to run the Upadhan.
A lawful authority, if we are legally compelled. We would comply with a court or a statutory order; we would not hand your data to anyone who merely asked.
NOT SOLD. NOT RENTED. NOT SHARED WITH ADVERTISERS. NOT USED FOR MARKETING. There is no analytics company, no advertising network, and no tracking pixel anywhere on this website.
How long we keep it
Unsubmitted drafts, and files uploaded to them: :days days, then deleted.
Submitted registrations: kept for the duration of the Upadhan and afterwards for the trust’s records, so that an aradhak’s participation and their deposit can be accounted for.
Photographs and ID proofs: kept only as long as they are needed to verify and admit you, and purged after the Upadhan concludes with Malaropan. They are the first thing deleted, because they are the most dangerous thing to hold.
Payment and refund records: retained as long as the law requires financial records to be retained.
Your rights under the DPDP Act, 2023
ACCESS — you may ask what personal data of yours the trust holds, and be told.
CORRECTION — you may have anything wrong or incomplete corrected. Please do: a misspelt name on a Sammati Patra is a problem at the gate.
ERASURE — you may ask for your data to be deleted, unless the trust is required by law to keep it. Erasing the data of an accepted aradhak means withdrawing the registration.
GRIEVANCE — you may complain to the Grievance Officer named below, and you may afterwards approach the Data Protection Board of India.
CONSENT WITHDRAWAL — you may withdraw your consent. The registration then cannot proceed, and the deposit is dealt with under the Refund Policy.
To exercise any of these, WhatsApp +91 88 798 798 61, or write to the Grievance Officer. Please give your registration number so that we find the right form and not somebody else’s.
Children
A child’s registration must be made by a parent or guardian, who is consenting on the child’s behalf to everything on this page.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS. ID proofs and health data are encrypted at rest. The administration panel requires a login, sets a strict Content Security Policy, and records every ID-proof view. No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise, but nothing here is left in the open.
Grievance Officer
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, the trust must name a person you can complain to. This is that person:
- Name
- Shree Sanmarg Parivar
- sanmargsadharan@gmail.com
- Address
- C/O 27, Pushpamani CHS, Zaver Road, Mulund West
If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that changes what you agreed to, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
Anything unclear? WhatsApp +91 88 798 798 61. We would much rather answer a question than have you guess.
